BIOGRAPHY

Leah Lopez is an award winning artist whose paintings have been featured in national exhibitions including American Women Artists, Salon International, Allied Artists of America, Oil Painters of America, and Miniatures at The Albuquerque Museum. She teaches painting classes at the New York Academy of Art and workshops at Lyme Art Association, Andreeva Academy, Sedona Arts Center, Barrett Art Center, and Cape Cod Art Association.

Raised in the unique culture and beauty of Northern New Mexico, artists and artisans captured Leah’s imagination and inspired her to explore creative outlets. Her innate love for drawing and painting was a continual source of inspiration and led her to practice traditional techniques through a series of art classes in California and later to attend art classes at the University of New Mexico. At age 23, she began learning her most valuable lessons in art from exceptional artists and teachers Gregg Kreutz, Sherrie McGraw, and David Leffel through classes held in the Southwest and at the Art Students League of New York. It was not long before Leah's paintings received recognition and she was awarded First Place at the Traditional Fine Arts, First Place in Oils at the Best and Brightest, Honorable Mention at Salon International, and Award of Merit at the American Women Artists Show.

Leah still approaches every new subject as an opportunity to learn. She says, "Things are always changing, the arrangement, the model, the light, the appearance of color, and observing all this opens one’s senses to the possibilities."

Location: Plein Air Painting on Amelia Island
Workshop Dates: 3/21/2011 - 3/25/2011

This is a five day Plein Air Workshop that will be held at beautiful Fort Clinch State Park, historic downtown Amelia Island and the surrounding areas.  Armand will choose specific sites for each day designed to teach the student how to approach different subjects & to give the student a variety of experiences to enhance their artistic growth.

Armand Cabrera workshops are a fun and intensive way to study the Essentials of Successful Painting, no matter what your style or level. He guides his students with practical solutions to overcome the obstacles that prevent them from creating successful paintings. There will be a maximum of 14 students in this workshop, allowing each student to get plenty of attention. Students will learn how to finish 2 paintings per day in an alla prima method.

Armand teaches how to simplify and organize the painting process to work within the fleeting time constraints of the roving sun. He instructs how to "organize nature" and capture light and atmosphere in a painterly fashion. He demos daily, usually between 12 pm - 1 pm ... during the most challenging time of the day, leaving the better hours of light for the students to paint. Students discover how to eliminate their weaknesses. More seasoned painters will be taught how to solve advanced problems and perfect their technique.

Students are asked to bring small sketches or photos from which to paint. As this is an outdoor workshop, students should anticipate weather changes and bring proper attire.
In the event of rain, the workshop will be held indoors at the Amelia Island Hotel.

Important: Please go to Armand’s website to review the important Materials and Reading List. His informative blog has a wealth of information about painting. http://www.artandinfluence.blogspot.com/
